Solar Water Heating A Green Alternative To Gas & Electric Water Heating Systems

'Sustainability' is a buzzword today, and technologies that foster conservation, reclamation, energy alternatives, improved air quality and/or less carbon output are more popular than ever. Solar water heating satisfies several of these 'green' goals and is a money-saving strategy to boot.

Solar water heating systems are able to make use of one of the environment's most abundant, 'free' resources and turn it into an economic alternative that nearly everyone can use. Long utilized in Japan, India, Europe and China, solar water heating (SWH), also known as solar hot water (SHW) is a simple and inexpensive alternative to the more typical gas-fired or electric water heating systems, especially in warm weather climes.

Though not totally reliable for hot water production in consistently cold weather, solar systems can be augmented by small electric or gas-powered units for these times. For most, solar hot water makes very good sense.
